CXLI: Reconnections

It's always nice to catch up with a friend, especially when it's been awhile and things still feel like they used to when you get together. I have a few friends with whom this is definitely the case, and one of them, Smithie (affectionately nicknamed, of course), came over tonight for dinner and dessert. It was the best setup ever: I made dinner and she made dessert. (I lie, the best setup ever would be if someone made me a whole meal. It's not that I don't like cooking, it's that there's so much effort and thought involved...optimal for a weekend setting but not after work on weeknights!)

If you were to judge me on my cooking tonight, you probably wouldn't want to come back. We had my leftover Caprese pasta salad which Smithie graciously okayed to eat along with chicken breast whose recipe I spontaneously created with a few nanoseconds of thought. I still don't fully comprehend meat cooking times unless they are thin slices of beef, in which case it is easy to observe the change in colour signifying its transition from raw to rare to medium.

Smithie made her signature yummy cheesecake and we enjoyed eating some of it a few minutes after it was done baking in the oven. I now have a whole dessert to myself. Whatever shall I do?

It's getting "late" and I need to practice for tomorrow. And read some more of The Girl Who Played with Fire.
