CLXIV: Ελληνική ημέρες

Happy Greek Day!

Today I got to experience my first ever Greek Day in Vancouver. The weather was grey and misty when I got there but that did not dampen the spirits of the visitors, most of whom lined up at one of the many souvlaki stalls in hungry anticipation.

RaeRae and I first hit up the dessert tent for fear that they would sell out. I bought 2 honey cookies (aka melomakarona, the item I semi-unsuccessfully searched for on my Greece trip last year...in Greek), bougatsa, and baklava. So far I have only eaten one melomakarona.

Then Numz joined us while we lined up for gyro pita, and I enjoyed every bite. The three of us (3/4 of the travelling sisters, sadly we missed Nicky) went to a café to sit down and chat for most of the afternoon. It was so nice to get to catch up with them again since it seems like such a rare occurrence. I don't know how I go so many days without seeing any of my friends, especially with my parents away. You'd think it would happen at least weekly, but with our different schedules I'm lucky if it's once every few weeks.

When we left the café the sun had come out and the streets were more crowded. The music at Super Paradise Disco had improved, as well as the DJ (in the morning an older Greek man with a belly was in charge of the music), and the smells of grilled meat continued wafting in the air.

Nicky, you must go next year -- they had a roast lamb tent!
