"Ave" is Latin for "hail", popularly known from "Ave Maria" (Hail Mary). And though it's not a homonym in Latin, I was caught in the first few seconds of a hailstorm as I got off my community shuttle bus. Luckily the driver let me off a bit closer to my house, but as soon as I stepped down I was instantly drenched and pelted with "aves". It was half invigorating and half hilarious as I ran up the street in my flip-flops uttering profanities to myself.
That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes--it's smooth sailing and then suddenly it pours on you without warning, and you're ill-equipped to deal.
And I don't just mean the weather.
I had no idea that Ave meant "hail"! You have taught me something new.
