CLVIII: Letting Go

Once in awhile, I feel the need for a big change. I've found that the easiest (and often cheapest) way to do so is to get a haircut. Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's drastic. I've been itching for a haircut for the past month or so and finally had my appointment scheduled for tonight. My family friend, a professional hair stylist, has been cutting my hair since I was a preteen (I guess now they're called "tweens". I'm glad I'm not one now because I would never want that label!). I always go over to her house, ask her to do whatever she wants with my hair, and then come out happy, either instantaneously or about two weeks later, once it's grown out a bit.

Today I was vacillating between a trim and a major cut. As in no more long hair that I have painstakingly grown out for a couple of years and not really taken advantage of. But I didn't feel like playing it safe anymore. I just thought "screw it!" and told her to cut it short. And what do you know, I'm very happy with my impulsive decision. I think it's funny that, as much as a worrywart and indecisive person as I am, it's nice to let go of the reins and say "yes" on a whim.

Especially when your decision isn't permanent. Hair grows back.
