Tonight Olim and I went to Dulcinea Chocolate Café to fill ourselves with the sumptuosity of chocolate. We walked in and were immediately faced with our normal indecisiveness. How does one choose a few chocolate drinks/dishes when there are so many to choices? While we scanned the menu the barista gave us each a shot of 1528, their signature hot chocolate which they use as the basis for all their chocolate drinks. I was a bit skeptical of ordering a whole cup of this stuff since I had a terribly overindulgent incident at Le Pichet in Seattle (I had ordered their sipping chocolate, was faced with a huge mug of what was, in essence, melted dark chocolate, and felt gross for the rest of the day).
We ordered and shared the following:
- Bocadillo: small sandwiches with Jamón serrano and manchego cheese; YUM!
- Chocolate con churros: self-explanatory. Comes with a cup of 1528 for dipping, so we didn't have to order it extra. Yummy but I still prefer Mexican churros with cinnamon sugar (sold at Disneyland...and Costco many years ago)
- Xocolatl: chilli spiced hot chocolate; Olim liked it
- Chocolate chai: yum again!
We enjoyed chatting while sitting at a booth in the back and drinking lots of water to balance out all of the chocolatey goodness. And we were full but not unpleasantly so! The weather was so gorgeous that we took a stroll around the seawall bathed in the glow of the sunset and dreamed about taking a swim. (I say "dreamed" because neither of us can swim well/at all.) Gracias for a great night, Olim!
