CXXXV: You Snooze...

...you lose. Tonight's victim: Madama Butterfly.

Maybe I am getting older--or maybe I'm getting younger---but I have fallen asleep at some point during the last five operas I have seen. This includes the now infamous Armida fiasco, three operas at Vancouver Opera, and a repeat broadcast of, hmm, Armida again. It also extends to my dear Craigy: every time I watch a PVR'd episode of his show, I doze off on the couch at some point. Most recently was Thursday night/Friday morning when I woke up on my couch at 3:00am...it was a dark day indeed.

I can't help but think that it can all be traced back to when I started yoga. How often did I sacrifice sleep to take an early morning hot class? But this is no longer my excuse. Now it's general internet-distraction and a lack of prioritization. In an ideal world, sleep should have more hours than a workday. Its value is equal to or greater than that of diet and exercise. And its cognitive benefits are limitless (are you there, Memory? It's me, Giosy).

I'm making a June or, if it goes well, lifelong resolution. I am going to start giving my body and mind the amount of sleep they deserve. No more going to bed past midnight.

Starting in June...
