CXIII: Always Read Carefully

Sorry, feet. I have grossly mistreated you the past few days. Especially yesterday when I crammed you into those peek-toe red leather shoes. Today you were trying to mend in my flats, but, poor heel, you had enough and had to bleed.

I took the subway to Brooklyn, waited in line for about 20 minutes to eat at Grimaldi's, enjoyed my margherita pizza and coke, exchanged some words with the local diners, spoke a bit of French to an older dining couple from Marseilles, walked along the water, sat on a bench and basked in the gorgeous sun. I felt happy and carefree just sitting there and looking at the Brooklyn Bridge to my right. After some time, I bought a strawberry ice cream and decided to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge despite my painful right heel. So I guess you could say that I limped across the bridge.

Upon setting foot in Manhattan again, I took the subway one stop to Canal Street and quickly walked through Chinatown in order to reach SoHo. I like to shop but I am by no means one who follows fashion and its trends. The stores I hit were recommended by my coworker who has very good taste: Topshop, Uniqlo, and Comptoir des cotonniers. I only found a couple of tops in Topshop (so worthy of its name I guess!).

(As I write this, a guy a few computers away from me is typing madly into the keyboard as if all our lives depended on it. And he just let out a burp.)

I walked through SoHo to Greenwich Village so that I could take a photo of the arch in Washington Square Park, which is right next to NYU. I wanted to reach Chelsea Piers between 6-6:30pm because I thought the Circle Line Harbour Lights Cruise (at 7:00pm) would depart from there. So I passed by Babbo (purely by accident), the Meatpacking District (saw DVF), and arrived...only to sit down in the middle of nowhere to reread my CityPass booklet and realize that the cruise did not depart from Chelsea Piers at all! It was on Pier 83, about 30 blocks up from where I was. I decided to take a risk, walk as fast as my tired feet could take me (4 blocks to the subway), take the subway a few stops, and run another 5 blocks to make it just in time for the cruise. I tried my best to take some nightshots of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan...I guess we'll see how these turned out when I load them onto my computer.

On my bus ride back to Grand Central Station, a guy with big muscles and tattoos started talking to me. He works on The Beast, this speedboat tour of Manhattan, and said if I came Saturday he would let me in for free. Unfortunately I am leaving on Friday. Oh well!

This will be my last time using the computer before I come home. My plan for tomorrow is to meet my elementary and high school friend Snoop for breakfast, then head to MOMA, grab a bite in Chelsea Markets, and then watch Wicked at 8pm. On Friday, after I check out, I'm going to spend the day in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I'm really looking forward to seeing all of those ancient sculptures! I fly home on Friday night around 10:20pm and will arrive in Vancouver around 1:30am Saturday. So, dear friends, I'm looking forward to seeing you all very soon! Thank you for emailing me and/or reading and sorry if I haven't emailed you all back. It's hard to blog and find time to answer emails when I only have 40 minutes!
