CXXII: MaPatience

Patience. It's really a virtue.

I just spent the past couple of hours helping my mom pack for her trip. My parents leave early this evening for a two-and-a-half month stay in Europe. Mom is a definite overpacker and I was trying (nay, struggling!) to be the best drill sergeant I could be, setting limits on how many tops and bottoms she could bring. Unfortunately I had to give some leeway in the tops department as she was not going to listen.

I made her decide between two pairs of pants with similar colour schemes. If she wanted to add a pair I said she had to switch with something we had already placed in her luggage. I kept stressing the importance of editing and bringing durable items that could be mixed and matched a variety of ways. I also made sure she only packed her most flattering tops because who doesn't want to look their best in photos?

Then there's the question (or rather DILEMMA) of shoes. She is hellbent on bringing a pair of white sandal heels (I don't know fashion terms so bear with me!). I have told her four pairs of shoes max, three of which should be comfortable enough for walking all day and one pair for formal nights. She has a pair of sandals and two pairs of comfy flats already, plus her heels for nighttime, so you can see why I think the white ones are a no-go. I don't know if she ended up sneaking them in after I left her to her own devices. I helped her pack last year as well and the day after, I found at least ten new articles of clothing added to her luggage.

At the same time, I know my parents had to be patient with me today. I haven't gotten more than six hours of sleep since...New York...and last night definitely took a toll on me. And by last night, I mean all the unnecessary extra internet activity I partook in. Not partying.

So I was quite moody, brash, and rude with my parents at different times of the day today. I said some things that were either hurtful in content or tone. I do not like being that girl--the crazy bitchy girl who rolls her eyes and nags at her parents. I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell! -- I mean sleep!
