I somehow get entranced by YouTube every other night or so, right when I'm supposed to be saying goodnight to Chloe. On Thursday night I treated myself to more opera time than normal - both practicing and viewing-wise (mostly because I have voice class on Thursdays and it puts me in the mood; that and my voice is warmed up better than usual so the high notes come a bit easier).
So yes, there I was home alone if you don't count my cat, singing to myself as I often do, this time in front of the piano vs. while washing dishes, and I love this song so much even though I haven't heard it nearly enough times yet.
Here are two versions of Gustave Charpentier's "Depuis le jour" from the opera Louise. I know nothing about this opera other than how gorgeous this aria is. Check out Renée Fleming and Anna Moffo's interpretations if you're interested. The context of this piece is transparent: it is a song sung amidst the all-consuming bliss of love.
