CCLXXII: Dantès

Never forget, that until the day when God will deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words,--"Wait and hope."
It is with a heavy heart that I closed The Count of Monte Cristo for the (first) last time after a two-month monogamous literary affair, but I can happily attest to loving the story, its protagonist, and the conclusion. There were so many sections that I should have marked down (not in the book itself of course! That would be blasphemous!) solely to have those beautiful passages readily available to my eyes and fingers; and for that reason I can see myself picking this book up again within the next few years.

Who will I be the next time I read about Edmond Dantès' adventures? That will surely determine my future interpretation of this epic tale. That great unknown is what excites and terrifies me. My heart beats with this anticipation that surrounds me. But for now, all I can do is, as Alexandre Dumas so eloquently put, "Wait and hope."
