Alas, tonight was not one of those venison nights (too bad it wasn't on the menu as I think my dad would have enjoyed it). But more on food later.
My dad drove us and as we approached two blocks from the restaurant, we turned right just as the light changed green. A couple of seconds later we heard a large thump, as if something had hit the back window of our car. I looked behind and saw a male pedestrian looking at us menacingly and holding his long umbrella. Apparently the noise we heard was him hitting the back of our car with his umbrella. He had started to cross the street just as my dad was completing his turn, so he was interpreting my dad's slow driving as us cutting him off.
When we parked the car, we saw that there was a small dent on Argentina (the name I christened our dear silver Honda CR-V), right under the back window. WTML, pedestrian?! If I had balls I would have screeched the car to a halt after hearing your unnecessary and overblown reaction. Then I would have chased you down the street with the angriest face I could muster, pounce on you from behind so that you hit the ground and then give you a dent as well. *Exhales deeply*. I've seen too many action movies.
Alas, I do not have said balls, but I do have said imagination and sometimes let it run wildly into the night of my synapses.
I just wish that he hadn't soured our celebratory mood. I know I'm very sensitive about pretty much everything, and we definitely still enjoyed our evening, but some interactions you feel you would rather have lived without.
The food was great, my parents and I loved every dish. We ordered (yes, another bulleted list):
- Salumi platter: soppresseta, fennel pollen sausage, and pate di campagna
- Albacore tuna crudo
- Octopus (Nicky and RaeRae, you would have loved this salad!)
- Tagliarini
- Alberta flat iron steak
- Nutella tart (I order this everytime)
- Meringues, biscotti, and cookies
- Red wine: Batasiola, Barbera D'Alba
- Grappa and espresso for Dad
Yay, tomorrow's Friday! Thank Hypnos/Somnus!
