LXXXIII: A Good Friday

My day started hastily as I rushed to catch my 9:00am bus, but it was well worth it because I got to experience a truly wonderful Anusara-inspired yoga class with Nicky. I went to a beginner class a couple of months ago and didn't find it that challenging or that memorable...but today, it was both of those things and all the more fun because Nicky was there with me. And at one point we got to do partner work and let's just say we got really close to each other. It was nice! A kind of yogic version of a trust exercise.

We had a male instructor who was substituting, and he was AWESOME. I was ten minutes early for class and he approached a few of us one-on-one and introduced himself. He also remembered everyone's names throughout the class. But that's not what made him great. It was his infectious laugh and positive energy. He made the at-times almost-impossible class entertaining, mentioning his outrage (that he needed to calm) at seeing a poster of Justin Bieber at HMV or telling us all to find grace in the universe...and then clarifying he didn't mean Grace (girl in our class) but grace (noun). By the end of the class, I was hellbent on marrying the guy, or, as Nicky said, settling on being his best friend. It's funny how ninety minutes can change your life. Just kidding. But I do like how those ninety minutes put me in a good mood for the rest of the day, as most yoga classes do.

Nicky and I had a quick ramen lunch at Benkei on Robson and then it was time to rush home and get ready for mass--a mass in which many funny things happened: not only did my mom fall asleep while standing up (which I've done on a bus before...that's what we call extreme napping, my friends), but at one point the priest had made a procession out with two altar-servers and then lots of people started leaving. Then the priest came back and said "It's not finished yet! Oh my God! Have you never been to a Good Friday mass before?". As he was walking up the altar I could swear he muttered "Jesus!" and then sat down and looked a combination of angry and haggard. By then about half of the congregation had filed out.

After mass, it was time to get ready to go out for Smeek's birthday dinner at Refuel. RaeRae was my date for the night and we dined with Smeek, Bunny, and their boyfriends. I enjoyed taking our time at dinner and the great (often inappropriate) conversation we all shared. By the time we left it was 10:30pm, which meant that we had spent 3.5 hours there. How time flies when you're among fabulous company! This whole day whizzed by and I am so happy I got to see some of my dear friends.

However, I am a bit disappointed (or rather, my dad is) that I ate meat today. In my lunch and in all three plates at dinner...I'm sorry, Jebus!
