C: 100 Days of Giosy

If you've been reading this everyday, I apologize. You could have been doing something better with your time like sleeping or writing a paper.

But honestly, if you have been reading, thank you for making me a part of your day. I hope I have amused you more than bored you. I thought some posts so far have definitely been better than others, but then again, some days are better than others, so you can gauge my life by the ebb and flow of mood or stagnancy I bring you.

How can we celebrate our past hundred days together? Well, first, I thought about getting a facelift. For the blog, that is (I would never go Montag). You've probably noticed it already.

Then my dear friend Pleuvy said, "how about a celebration of everything that is you and everything that you love: Nicknames, puns, opera, Italian/Latin phrases, travelling memories, and jeopardy fun facts!" Thanks a lot for the suggestions, Pleuve. You've reminded me of something I've been meaning to share with my friends for awhile, which is my parody of The Sound of Music's "My Favourite Things". It was inspired by a trip to Sicily and Greece with my travelling sisters last summer and written in the living room of our apartment in Athens.

My Favourite Things

High-pressured showers with dry toilet seats
Wide-open spaces and big screen TVs
Warm, helpful owners; unique Grecian rings
These are a few of my favourite things

Freshly-baked croissants and ample breakfast foods
Free internet with laptop is good
Italian sixties music with Palermo boys that sing
These are a few of my favourite things

When the dogs bark
When the mosquitoes bite
When Nicky's feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Sweet fragoline, crepes with banana and nutella
Pasta, pizza, pitas, melomakarona, ciambella
Looking forward to meals, then feasting like kings
These are a few of my favourite things...

Can you tell that we love to eat? And that we hate getting mosquito bites? These were just some of the messages I was subtly trying to convey in the lyrics to this song. Oh it takes me back. Boy do I not miss having to throw toilet paper in garbage cans (Greece) or seeing huge mounds of trash that would be lit on fire when they reached the size of two cars or a small bus (Palermo). But I do miss my girls, whether travelling sisters, pretend lovers, or soulmate. You know who you are.

Extravaganza!!! (Sorry, I felt that I should include that word in here somehow.)

  1. Meuvy, I love your new facelift! It definitely makes you look younger. 10 years younger, in fact! I'm so glad you liked my suggestions. This was a great 100th post and I have enjoyed reading every single post, every single day. I was singing the words of your song in my head :) Here's to another 100 posts! Cheers!
