XLVIII: Party with Jesus

So you can't see him closely because he's blinded by a white light, but he does in fact look Christ-like.

Tonight I went to LiveCity Yaletown to see Girl Talk with le ragazze as per Nicky's recommendation and am very glad I braved the rain. I had not really heard his mashups before but they were awesome and fun to dance to. Way better than what certain Vancouver clubs play anyway.

What I didn't like were the swarms of teenagers near the front of the stage, forming the most extreme moshpit I've ever been in (though, to be fair, most of the concerts I've been to have been pretty tame). We were in the epicentre for the first few minutes and then wisely trekked to the outskirts of the insanity.  And what happened in those few minutes were:
  • lots of pushing and shoving to such a degree that I thought I'd get trampled
  • being kicked in the back of the head by a crowd-surfer (possibly twice)
  • having a girl's arm hooked through my shoulder bag so that when we were trying to escape, she ended up pulling me back towards the chaos
When we were safe, I witnessed:
  • a bong made out of a limited edition coca cola bottle
  • a DJ that looked like Jesus, especially when his shirt was ripped (see photo above)
  • a little girl meekly clapping amidst women dancing on stage
  • tweens with blackberries
  • possible subliminal messages being transmitted on the big screens ("Ffui?", "I'm not a DJ"...)
It was an adventure to say the least.

Fireworks after the show

I'm going to miss this Olympic Vancouver atmosphere. Perhaps this will teach Vancouverites how to have fun. We really need more nightlife options.

  1. i think by the point you took the picture, he had already taken his shirt off! I don't really know why people like going into mosh pits, it's so uncomfortable in there
