XLVII: Sixteen Days

That's how many days I have left until the BCCM Gala Showcase.

Still looking for an accompanist. This is very worrisome. I'm hoping that my new temporary voice coach (who I am seeing just to help prep for this performance) can free up his busy schedule and play the piano for me that day. It felt so easy and comfortable when he played the piece for the first time with me on Saturday. I didn't have to worry about my timing or breath. I could just bask in the moment of the song.

That's because he knows the push and pull of the music, which parts need to speed up, and which parts need to be revelled in. He knows the piece better than me, he understands German, and he tells me where and how I can improve. This is the kind of support I need onstage. According to my teacher today, anything less of an accompanist would not be acceptable for me. She even said that if he can't do it, I should consider not participating in the recital at all! I'm not going to give up on this even if he can't come, but I am praying to the panoply of (music) gods that he will!
