CCCVI: No Rest for the Bookworm

That's a bit of a lie, I did get some sleep. Just not enough.

As I mentioned last night, I set two goals for myself--one of which was to finish Jane Eyre. Well, I did it, guys! I crawled into bed a bit before 11pm and started reading with Chiara curled up beside me. I had more than 100 pages to read but as I got reabsorbed into the plot, characters, and hung from the thread of suspense to know the fate of Jane and Mr. Rochester, the time melted away and before I knew it, I had finished the book and it was 1:47am.

I loved the book, especially the feminine wisdom found in its pages and the hilarious banter between Jane and Mr. Rochester. I was once again sorry to bid farewell to these characters that I got to know so well. Hollywood should stop making movie sequels and start making book sequels. That aren't crap.

Other news for today: let's just say that I indulged in four too many cookies. My transformation into the Cookie Monster seems imminent. I'm wearing a blue fleece hoodie as I type.

  1. hmm I'd have to disagree with you, Giosy. I love Jane Eyre just the way it is. It's such an eternal story... they live on after you're done reading. I love that book. It moves me whenever I think of it. I had no idea you were reading it!

  2. I love it just as it is too, never said otherwise! I didn't want the book to end, that's all.

  3. ok so I just read yesterday's post... and you obviously haven't watched the movie versions of Jane Eyre. I would almost discourage you from watching it because the Rochester is not very desirable... however I found the acting quite compelling. But then again, the book describes his appearance... it's really the passion that you end up falling in love with.

and oh Giosy, how could you not feel proud of Jane for being true to her morals?! to love herself first before loving a man who so cruelly deceived her? oh my dear Giosy!

  4. haha yes i haven't, but you know they're making a new version with the girl who played Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? I think it's almost done too.

    Yes I love the PASSION!

Now looking back at the story, I realized Jane's reasoning and see it as a testament to her strong character. It's a story that should be taught to teens nowadays, no? In this age of boyfriends supposedly creating a happily ever after...

  5. And I don't know how you remember book details! In a couple days I won't be able to recall this...just like how after reading A Clockwork Orange and 1984 I mixed up nadsat and newspeak.
