CCCVII: Phnom Penh²

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. My only regret is (and Numz will say I should never regret anything) that I didn't know about it sooner. Maybe that's a good thing?

No pictures this time, guys. Sorry. But somehow I enjoyed it even more today. More on that later.

I took a half-vacation day to have lunch with my parents and my aunt who is visiting from Italy. As I left my building I saw the bus pull away, and, noticing the traffic on the street, I did some quick calculations in my head and decided to run to the next stop 1.5 blocks away. I made it and looked a fool, but hey, why wait around when you can get somewhere earlier?

Less than 20 minutes later (a bus-ride full of me rating songs on my iPod as I synced it last night for the first time this year), I arrived a block away from the restaurant. And about 20 minutes after that, we were seated. We ordered:
  • Spring rolls
  • Chicken wings
  • Rice noodles (no broth)
  • Fillet beef (luc lac) on rice with egg - this is by far one of my most favourite dishes in the history of Asian cuisine and I will order this every time I come back. Trust.
  • Hot & sour soup with fish
  • Hot Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk
  • Tapioca and taro dessert - I didn't touch this. I was too full and dislike taro.
Everything was marvelous and we couldn't stop verbally expressing our enjoyment. I kept thinking about how I can't wait to come with my friends in the near future, particularly when Nicky returns from Cambodia and Pleuve returns from Paris:)

We had some leftovers and three of us didn't have dinner tonight because we were still full.

If I married someone with the last name Lac, I would contemplate naming my future son Luc (French for Luke) just to commemorate this dish. It would be like Nicky naming her children after her favourite cured meats: Bresaola and Jamon.

Poor future unborn children.

  2. Aww I LOVE that family tree! Bresaola's nickname should be spelled Brie instead of Bree so you get a double-food effect. I know how you love cheese!

And sorry for forgetting Fra-Fra! How could I?
