I will join the hundreds of thousands of my fellow Vancouverites and yell at the top of my constricted lungs, "WTML?!" Okay, so maybe they won't be using my vernacular, but the point remains the same: ever since when did Vancouver have snow and/or subzero temperatures in November? In my 24 years of existence, in all 24 winters give or take a few spent abroad, I have never ever had to walk around in the fall with the feeling that my legs would stop functioning if I went on for much longer. It's a bit frightening because if it's this cold now, what will it be like a month or two from now?! Do I need to invest in a whole new winter wardrobe? I take everything back from a few weeks ago, this is an all new low.
What I recommend for all you shiverers out there is to try and pop into a sauna sometime. I spent a few minutes in an infrared one before my Core class early this morning and the warmth lasted me for a couple of hours--even mittenless and hatless all throughout my ten-minute walk to work.
Barring that, stay indoors at all times if you can help it. Enjoy a hot beverage or three. Curl up under a blanket, sit by the fireplace or TV, and thank Jebus you aren't outside.
Seriously, I had to cover my face with my scarf on my walk home tonight. Even though it obstructed my vision (quite dangerous so don't try this at home, kids), it was such a relief. I had a toque, hood, scarf, mittens, and my winter jacket on. Oh and ladies, if you have work pants with some sort of satiny lining, for the love of Zeus, wear leggings or tights underneath! Can you tell that I didn't today?
Stay warm, Vancouver.
