LXXX: Burgoo to the Max

I. Am. So. Full. Right. Now.

Today was a day full of eating. I am not much of a snacker, but ever since I started working at my current office (comprised of only women), I have noticed that I am more easily tempted to eat sweets. Particularly baked goods. We women are a weak sex in this respect.

Around 10:30am there was an Easter-themed tea for all admin assistants where you were encouraged to wear an Easter bonnet. I had written in my Moleskine to bring said hat. Not that I own any particularly Easter-themed hats or anything. I was actually going to bring a hat from Disneyland that has Minnie Mouse's face sculpted on it. But that didn't happen since I totally forgot about it until I got into work. Luckily it was a cold morning and I had worn my grey knit beret-like hat (fashionistas, do you know the term for the hat I speak of?). I digress.

Clearly I did not win the much coveted voted-upon best Easter bonnet prize, but I did win a prize for finishing an Easter wordsearch first. I was a bit relieved that I won because as soon as I saw the wordsearch I allowed my inner (and let's face it, outer as well) geek to express glee at the prospect of completing a wordsearch. I didn't even know there would be a prize for finishing first. I was just silently competing with one of my coworkers who believes that I think everything is a competition. Well, I proved her right! And I would have hated to have done all that gushing without proof that I can efficiently do a crossword.

At this tea, they served an array of treats, including: lemon bars, biscotti, HOT CROSS BUNS, meringues, PINK LEMONADE, and (eeuw) cantaloupe. Can you tell what I liked and disliked? And what I had seconds/thirds/fourths of? I don't normally like hot cross buns but these ones were chocolate chip. I later found out that they were from Cobs Bread. And they were mostly halved/quartered so I really only had one entire hot cross bun...

That was all before lunch.

For lunch, I had a Montreal smoked meat-filled bagel from Siegel's Bagels and a bit of Greek salad from Stepho's.

All day, I had intermittent snack-attacks of Cadbury mini eggs.

And then dinner. Oh man. I went to Burgoo on Main St. with my friends Oli and Mylo. I had already decided what I was ordering yesterday afternoon when we had decided to go there to celebrate Oli's belated birthday. It was my first time there ever and I had:
  • Soup and sandwich combo: Crab Bisque - smooth crab and red pepper cream bisque scented with tarragon; and Gooey Cheese Grillers - two grilled angle cut filone sandwiches with melted Mozzarella, Gruyere, Emmenthal, and white Cheddar
  • Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding
Oli had the French Onion Soup, Bruschetta, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Mylo ordered the Straight Up Tomato Soup, Vegiterranean Sandwich, and Strawberry Rhubarb Clafouti (my favourite dessert of the three - it's a featured dessert right now). We all loved everything but were so stuffed because of the huge portions. I think two people could share the $14 soup and sandwich combo and have enough. I had to pack one of my two sandwiches to bring home and I couldn't finish all of my dessert. I felt very guilty afterwards - my mom has ingrained an intolerance of food-wastage in me.

To sum up, today I ate tons of good food. And now I'm really thirsty.
