LXVII: Island-Hopping

No, I didn't have another vacation day like yesterday. And anyway, not like I got to travel somewhere and come back within the past 24 hours, like the Greek Isles perhaps.
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
-- Excerpt from John Donne's "Meditation XVII"
I've heard the saying "No man is an island" but I never knew that it was part of a greater poem. I felt like I haven't seen my friends or had a proper chat with them for quite some time. I feel that I've isolated myself. Not intentionally, of course. It just happens. You know how it goes, schedules don't quite fit, things come up, the weather doesn't cooperate. And when you don't live close to any of your friends and you're tired when you come home from work, you don't feel like "taking the ferry" out either.

Lately I have been Siros, and I miss Naxos, Mykonos, and Santorini, as well as Cornwall and Paris :) You know who you are, and I can't wait to see you soon, whether in person or through the miracles of technology. So if there's any way islands or towns can hug today, this is it.

  1. can i be naxos, because i like how its the biggest, most green and most fertile island of the cyclades.

  2. Haha funny you say that, because you're who I associated with Naxos, more for the outdoorsy adventurous reasons. But if you like being the most green and fertile, that's cool too.
Numz would be Mykonos and RaeRae would be Santorini in my mind.
Smeek and Pleuve, you know who you are :)

  6. LOL Smeek I so knew you would think that!!!!

I initially reversed Numz and RaeRae in my mind too re: their islands...but then I thought about how Numz is more mischievous than RaeRae...and how more of what happens in Mykonos stays in Mykonos...

I should have called myself Sicily!

  8. Taking into account that you hadn't been there, I still thought you were Santorini RaeRae because I just associated the insane amounts of picturesque vistas with how much fun you would have photographing them. Plus it seems like the island you wanted to visit the most, and I just inexplicably feel like you both suit each other:)
