We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of my dear purple umbrella, purchased from The Umbrella Shop about four years ago. It survived the tumultuous winds between Buchanan Tower and Buchanan D-block at UBC, shielded me from many a Vancouver rainstorm, and stayed fabulous through and through.
Oh purple umbrella, I never even thought of naming you. People complimented your lavender hue and I appreciated your sturdiness. But in your final days served as my backup umbrella at work, your frame did not waver. It was your handle that broke off. And the Umbrella Shop said it would be $10 to fix you, but if I traded you in for a new one they'd knock $5 off the price...so I thought it best to move on.
You leave behind Minnie, a red Italian umbrella with a clear heart-shaped window (who is currently undergoing surgery at the Umbrella Shop as well. They say it will take 2-3 weeks for her to recover...) and your successor Poppy, a blue ruffly umbrella who is apparently all the rave in Paris. Adieu!
Aww Meuvy! Hmm, I wonder if I have seen any Poppy's on the street here! Parisians don't usually carry their umbrellas out. Surprisingly most of them walk around in the rain without one. I saw some gorgeous umbrellas here, but knowing me, I would probably forget it on the metro...needless to say I bid my umbrellas adieu at a much faster rate lol.
