Tonight, Boy and I had our third movie date ever. Our first one was in February when we watched The Artist (which happens to be the day Numz got engaged in NYC), and our second was Moonrise Kingdom in June as part of Jazzmance weekend. Based on hearing about it at all, I suggested we watch Looper. I only knew that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in it and that it was supposed to be good--and I rarely hear about movies anymore since I don't read my guilty pleasure celebrity gossip blog anymore (whose writer I often referred to with my friends as if she were part of my close circle of confidantes) and I don't watch commercials on TV.
The first thing that struck me was the JGL's unrecognizable face. They gave him some sort of prosthetic nose so that he would look like a convincing young Bruce Willis.
There were some other things that I enjoyed, but all in all Boy and I were not too impressed. Its plot was weak and it seemed like a wannabe Inception. I liked the futuristic elements and dark and slick look of the movie, but it was mostly predictable. And I say that even though it took me thirty seconds to understand the conclusion after the movie ended.
My most memorable moment from the evening was during a scene where Emily Blunt's character was alone and laying on top of her bed. I whispered to Boy that she looked like she needed the touch of a man. A few seconds later, lo and behold, she summoned JGL's character for some lovin'. Check and mate. Literally.
Yes, I was very smug and content with myself for predicting that one.
After the movie, we strolled around Robson in the cold, had dinner at his place, and then watched Fargo, one of his favourite movies. It was not exactly what I thought it would be, and it didn't end with any sense of resolution, but I'm glad I finally heard the lines Boy and Oli would quote to me on occasion (separately).
William H. Macy sure plays boring and annoying characters.
