Even though I haven't been a student for *gasp* two years now, I still feel the same emotions that one would on the day before school starts--namely because it means that summer is now over.
The rainy and cold weather helped speed the transition along today. I woke up a bit past 11:30am (you would too if you slept around 4:00am again) and one of the first things my mom told me was that she had just invited a couple of her friends over for dinner tonight. Meaning this was not going to be a day spent on the couch. Nor had I planned for it to be completely lazy. I Dysoned the whole house (that thing is amazing!), washed my bedsheets, and moved some of the stuff on my bedroom floor to an ever looming pile in my closet. I watched an episode and a half of True Blood on my laptop (though now that we have HBO Canada I could watch it in the living room...except I don't know how comfortable I am with the probability of my parents walking by at any moment. This coming from the family who watched the entire Rome series together...)
And I knew I wouldn't be doing any yoga today since I had slept in. Case closed.
On the menu tonight was an octopus salad--my parents' first attempt and quite successful I might add--along with funghi, olives, stracciatella soup, risotto (bleh!), chicken marsala, and my sole contribution: a Greek salad. Surprise surprise. While the guests awaited coffee I slipped away into the kitchen to do the household equivalent of damage control: washing all the pots, pans, and delicate glassware and loading the dishwasher. After that I spent a good hour or so on Facebook looking through some of me and my friends' past photo albums just for kicks.
Tomorrow, I'll start bright an early for a meeting, and it'll be exactly a month away from the annual conference that I have been helping plan for almost a year. It's crunch time, friends. There went my summer.
