L'appuntamento

When I gave Antonio my number last night and he said he'd call me the next day, I never expected that he'd actually call. Nor did Posh think the guy she met would do the same.

Well, apparently guys in Italy, or at least the Italian guys who got our numbers at Twice, keep their promises. After walking around the Mercato Centrale with Rob and Posh in the afternoon, we came home and I got a phone call from Antonio around 4:30pm asking me to go out with him. Within 30 minutes, Posh got a call from her guy too. We were both pretty surprised that things turned out the way they did.

Without going into too much detail, I will say the following about Italian guys (of course this doesn't apply to all):
  • They try to kiss you very quickly
  • They shower you with compliments
  • They say they feel a special/deep connection with you, along with other things that are baseless since you barely know each other (none of which, thankfully, I ever believed to be true)
My notes on Antonio in particular:
  • Very perceptive and intelligent with Freud/Jung leanings
  • Architect and successful handbag designer who also writes his own music and arrangements and takes part in jazz jam sessions with his friends around Florence
  • Spoke to me only in English (would have much rather preferred Italian)
At one point he asked me to draw a rectangle and was able to tell me about myself based on my drawing. WTML?!

All in all, I was happy to have some dating experience under my belt but at the end of our date I felt very neutral with no romantic attraction/connection to him at all. There was no spark and I felt like he wasn't even trying to get to know me, he was just trying to tell me about myself. I would be fine if I didn't see him again.

Today's word of the day is l'appuntamento or "date" (noun). Here's to having more and better ones in the near future!
