XVII: Sweating the Small Stuff

Day 2 of Operation Yoga and I didn't faint during my first hot yoga class ever! More on that later...

The day started off sluggishly. I am sore all over my body and loving it since it means I did something right yesterday! But my grogginess made it difficult to wake up and by the time I was ready to leave the house I was ten minutes behind schedule, and after catching and losing the bus (due to mechanical issues), I arrived 20 minutes late. I met up with my friend Oli to buy cupcakes for our coworker's birthday at Big City Cupcakes on Howe @ Nelson (which we prefer more that Cupcakes) and found out that they have special seasonal hours that were not the same as the ones on their voicemail. Instead of opening at 8, they opened at 10...blargh. We walked there again later.

We went to Stepho's for lunch and a few of us shared kalamari, kefthedes, and moussaka, and I was STUFFED--happily stuffed, but very full nonetheless--and I had to remember that we were sharing a half-dozen cupcakes shortly after lunch and I was not supposed to eat 2-3 hours before my hot yoga class. I downed 7-8 cups of water, which was very difficult on a full stomach, and trekked over to my (believed) doom.

And boy was I pleasantly surprised by the YHot class! It was crowded but the instructor found me a spot and she was very attentive to all 50 of us (the class was at full capacity), had a very positive and supportive demeanour, and made it an all-in-all great experience. I was happy to find the heat not as intense as I was expecting and I didn't get lightheaded at all! (My ankles got tired of supporting my whole body one leg at a time though!) The only thing that wasn't so great was that my brand new yoga mat that I had only used once yesterday was missing from the changeroom when I had arrived at the studio. There are tons of similar ones there so I can see how that could have happened, but I had labelled mine! Ok, yes, it was labelled with a post-it note, but the note was securely placed between my mat and its cord. Hopefully I will find it tomorrow along with the cord that holds it together, or it will mean that my paranoia for getting things stolen will never rest (thanks to a pickpocketing incident five years ago in Paris). Luckily I could use one of the studio's mats.

I'm planning to attend a Core class early in the morning and am very tempted to go to hot yoga again in the evening. My skin felt so good after all of that sweating!
