XII: Getting into (Top) Gear

I have been delaying this for months. When my parents went to Asia in October, I had promised myself to try out YYoga's intro offer of $30 for two weeks. My reasoning was that I wouldn't have to rush home after work to eat dinner with my parents. The opposite ended up happening: when my parents were home (before they left for their trip), I went out with friends almost every night; and when they were in Asia, I hurried to feed Chiara and to "cook" myself dinner. (I seriously can only recall cooking a handful of meals during that two-month duration. And I didn't even eat out much!)

Come next Monday, I will do the imJOCEible and start an intense two weeks of yoga-ing. I plan to make the most out of my money and go to 1-2 classes each day, once before work by myself and once after with a friend. Sticking to this plan is a whole other ballgame (I don't know if I can wake up at 6:00am for 2 weeks!), but something really has to change in my life. This is no New Year's resolution, this is a life commitment to being healthy, and since I have stopped jogging for hmmmm...six months (whoa time flies!), it's about time I started something up again. Starting is the hardest part. Once it's routine, it's exactly that: routine.

Something else that I've been putting off is catching up on my Top Gear episodes. RaeRae introduced me to the show shortly after our Eurotrip last summer. We had seen parts of an episode on our flight to London and, being too cheap to pay for crappy headphones, I still found it funny despite not having any sound. I PVR the episodes from BBC Canada every Monday to Friday, check over the first few seconds to see if it's an episode I've already watched, and then leave it for viewing another day. I have between 20-30 episodes waiting for me, and none of them are the Vietnam episode that I would like to keep forever. One day, it'll play!

And if you're wondering why I love a car show, it's because it's not simply a car show. I find the three hosts so hilarious and entertaining, and the challenges so amusing, that I can't not love this show. I don't, however, remember how much horsepower a Koenigsegg has, the model name of the Aston Martin Vantage (RX8? DB9? There are too many alphanumeric combinations possible!), or how many seconds it takes for a Bugatti Veyron to go from 0 to 60. Nor do I really know how to convert miles to kilometres, so it's hard to imagine how fast 300 mph is. But this show has really made me want to drive a stick shift car and drive it really fast!

PS. I've now enabled comments for everyone, not just blogspot members, so please feel free to comment. I'd love to hear from you!

  1. Oh, Giosy, I'll ask my dad to put the Vietnam episode on a disc for you! Have you watched the South America episode yet? I'm so happy you enjoy the show. I watched the episode where Hammie (haha) raced a fighter plane in a Bugatti. I don't know why I was surprised the plane won. My dad was quite amused that I was dumb enough to think that a car would beat a fighter plane =(

Waking up at 6am for yoga isn't so difficult. I woke up at 5am for 6am yoga once. You'll feel very refreshed and energized afterwards, and you'll even feel the urge to put something healthy in your body. I ate a cup of yogurt after 6am yoga, and I never voluntarily eat yogurt =p

yoga-ing twice a day is very intense, especially if you're doing hot yoga. however, if you're driven and committed enough, I believe you'll be able to do it=) Remember not to skip a day--it'll make it that much harder to resume your routine again.

let me know how it goes! remember, they provide you with towels and matts =)

  3. Great job on the yoga-ing, Meuvy! I should try and find a yoga spot in Paris...although I don't think the French enjoy yoga or know what it is. Jules and I watched part of an episode of Top Gear in Nice and it was pretty entertaining! Will try to find this Vietnam episode you speak of.
    Love you! xoxo
