The X Factor: Live Show #5

Today's show for me felt like a break from the competition, and because of that, tonight's recap is going to be short and...not so sweet.

It should have been called "The Tearjerker" since each contestant dedicated a song to someone they were thankful for, just in time for American Thanksgiving. Maybe it's the fair-weather cynic in me who has had her Disney-instilled unrealistic hopes and expectations slowly melted away from the letdowns of the entertainment industry (I speak as though I have been hardened by firsthand experience!), as if exposed to a Dementor and far from being able to summon a Patronus or having access to chocolate, but it seemed like a very well-planned and executed way to get sympathy votes. Which it definitely was.

Here is the express version of what went down:
  • Rachel Crow was fantastic and is to me already an artist.
  • Marcus Canty loves his mom.
  • Melanie Amaro now speaks with a Virgin Islands accent. I wonder where it was before. Am I still the only one who thinks she needs to improve her stage presence? When she spoke after singing it was the first time I saw some passion in her. She needs to translate this into her performances.
  • Chris Rene has wise tattoos.
  • LeRoy Bell needs to go home soon. I still don't know how he made it to the live shows.
  • Lakoda Rayne is steadily improving as a group and are starting to grow on me. I can't believe it either. Maybe it's because they sang Taylor Swift.
  • Astro is sorry for last week and rapped one long apology.
  • Drew loves her "special friend" who taught her to embrace her dorkiness (wise for a 14-year old since this is something I am currently learning to do). A beat kicked in around 10 seconds before the end. She needs to switch things up more, but I liked hearing her stand up for her sound choice and delivering a very necessary message to teenagers everywhere. This is around where Simon and L.A. had a heated argument. (I still love her voice, by the way.)
  • Josh Krajcik is amazing and should play his own instruments more often.

My Final Thoughts
Weakest: LeRoy Bell
Best: Josh Krajcik, Rachel Crow
Bottom three: LeRoy Bell (please?!), Chris Rene, Lakoda Rayne

Is it even worth predicting? Have you changed your mind about anyone? Should I just keep to express recaps in the future?

  1. Haha are those questions at the end meant for me? Because I'm the only one commenting on your x factor posts :) I, too, was baffled by Melanie's overnight Virgin Islands accent. I'm sorry, but I never liked her before, still don't like her now. Her performance (praise hands and crying excluded), was boring and lackluster. Rachel has 10x the personality she has. Melanie needs to go home. I am predicting that! Bottom 3--Lakoda Rayne, Drew, LeRoy. And I find Young Homie an oddly catchy song haha.
