Giosy vs. America: Round 1

Well, obviously America will win every round since their votes are the ones that actually count for X Factor; but I was a bit surprised with the results show today. The three acts I felt were the weakest were all safe (I think the judges expected LeRoy Bell to be in the bottom--I could tell by the looks on their faces), and America decided--fairly, I might add--that the Stereo Hogzz and InTENsity should be the bottom two. I sort of agree since I don't see either group going through for very much longer, but if we're looking at last night's performances, I thought that they had done pretty well for themselves.

I was very unimpressed when each group had to sing to save their spot in the competition. Four of the Stereo Hogzz were clearly lip-syncing (I saw them holding the mics low and not singing while "their voices" were heard) while the main guy sang live. (He is their only singer, after all.) They performed "Emotions" and it was perhaps the dullest rendition I have ever heard, probably due to the fact that the backing vocals/harmonies were not earnest and live. Then InTENsity was up and it was mostly Ilona who sang, and she did it with all the desperation and power she could muster. When it was the only other soloist's turn to sing (a guy), his voice cracked a couple of times, most likely because he was emotional for being so close to going home.

If I were to choose based on tonight's performances, I would have wanted the Stereo Hogzz to go home. Better to have emotion and a couple of mistakes than nothing at all. I think Simon felt the same way because he was the only one who voted for them to be sent home. In the end though, InTENsity got 3/4 of the judges' votes to leave the competition. It was so hard to watch the looks on the kids' faces when their mentor Paula chose them as the weaker group. Poor kids! But they are young and have their whole lives to bounce back from this and learn, grow, and improve. I really hope Ilona continues to pursue a singing career!

And is anyone else annoyed at the host for rudely cutting the judges off all the time? Let them talk!
