...and oh my God, what a results show it was tonight. I'm still a bit in shock.
The final 10 contestants performed "We Will Rock You" and LeRoy Bell missed his cue to sing (*groans*), so I thought it was another reason for him to go home. Alas, America fooled me once again with their voting.
Because the first two acts to be declared safe were the ones I had predicted to be in the bottom two: LeRoy Bell and Lakoda Rayne. In that order. WTML?!
WTML?!
I had really thought LeRoy Bell would be eliminated...he is, for me, the new Stereo Hogzz/scapegoat for all that is left to purge from the competition.
My shock and awe were put on hold for Rihanna's performance of "We Found Love" (speaking of, this video has over 43 million hits at the time of writing). It's a song I really like for the first 1.5 minutes or so, and then it just gets redundant. Anyway, I'm glad it was her tonight because last week's performers were boring, and she gave some good advice to the contestants--that they have to love what they do. The only thing I didn't like were her ripped jeans--or rather, that is something Giagi hated since ripped jeans are his pet peeve. These jeans basically had huge holes showing both of her thighs so you can imagine his reaction.
Back to the contestants. With those two safe, my next guess was that Chris Rene would go home--but lo and behold, he was safe too. After that I could only fathom Stacy Francis leaving due to her two back-to-back weak performances, and luckily she was in the bottom two. Did you see Rachel Crow's puppy-eyed face while she was waiting to be called? She was the eighth contestant to be put through to the next round, so it was pretty nerve-wracking.
And the other person in the bottom two was none other than the amazing Astro. Or at least, I thought he was amazing until I heard him speak to the judges before their final decision.
This is how it went down. Stacy Francis predictably sang a tearjerker song ("Amazing Grace"). The first few lines were incredibly off-key, and midway through I could not stand her voice because it was verging on lamb-like with the vibrato. I will be considerate and write this off as her emotional state. When Astro came out, he first said he didn't even want to perform and then put it up to L.A. Reid to decide if he should perform or not. At first I thought he was showing incredible maturity and not seeing himself as worthy to be put through if placed up against Stacy, who is generally a great singer, since he had remarked (when he heard that he was in the bottom two) that hip hop had already gone farther in the competition than he could've thought. Then he half-assed his performance. It was the most lacklustre I had ever seen him. He had already given up. I thought he was sacrificing himself for the greater good of music/vocal talent.
It wasn't until the judges started giving their feedback to the two contestants that I realized the situation: Astro was pissed off that America hadn't voted for him so he didn't want to perform for people who wouldn't appreciate him. WTML?! Are you serious? Is your ego really that big?
Okay, so we knew that his ego was pretty inflated to begin with, but I never could have imagined a sorer loser. Simon had to give him a lecture before making his decision and expressed how disrespectful Astro was behaving. The kid had his arms crossed for the entire deliberation and seemed angry at the whole world. That's no way to be, no matter how talented you are.
Three of the four judges decided to send Stacy home, even with Astro's attitude problem, and Stacy was too angry and shocked to cry. I was sorry to see her go since I think she wasn't the weakest performer in the competition and even sorrier that she had to go when her final competition didn't even have the decency to try.
Which leads me to my angry grandma rant of the day: why do so many kids these days have attitude problems? I saw a glimpse of it yesterday with Drew and an avalanche of it with Astro today. This sense of entitlement they share needs to go, and though these young stars are great artists already at their age, they need a huge slice of humble pie with a large serving of gratitude. Resols.
Oh I so need to comment on this! (not that I haven't been commenting on every single one of your x factor posts). I decided to look into this whole Astro attitude problem thing and turns out something happened backstage in the commercial that pissed Astro off and he explained it in his Twitter that he wasn't referring to his fans and more to the production team. Then I watched the tape back again and saw that he was quite good natured during the whole show (even when he was in bottom 2) until Steve called him to sing and that's when things kinda took a wrong turn. Yes, of course he could have handled it better, but I could tell he wasn't crying because he was in bottom 2, it was something else that was bothering him--more like he felt like he was being treated unfairly somehow. I don't think he should have mouthed off either, but he is just a kid no matter how 'mature' they might make him out to be, that's also putting a lot of pressure on him. I feel for the guy!
