The Hangover/La notte da leoni

En route to my cousin's place for a four-humungo-pizza dinner extraordinaire, we passed by posters for the movie Due Date which was just released in Italy today. I enjoy reading Italian translations of American movie titles because usually they aren't similar at all and try to somehow summarize the story. So the Italian title is Parto Col Folle, which, according to Google Translate, can mean any of the following:

• When all the words are capitalized, "Childbirth With Crowds"
• When all the words are in lower case, "(I) leave with crowds"
• When broken down word for word, "Childbirth With Psycho"

Hmm...this is very confusing.

If you're wondering where today's blog title comes in, I noticed that it said "dal regista di Una notte da leoni" and guessed that this meant "from the director of The Hangover", so I asked my cousin who was driving what

notte da leoni 

meant since it literally means "night of the lions". I had to clarify that "hangover" means "when you have a bad headache the morning after getting drunk" and then my suspicions were confirmed. So there you go, friends. You've learned yourselves an Italian idiom thanks to superb American filmmaking. And by "superb", this is what I really mean.
