It was my second day in a row of concert-going--what a crazy life I lead!
My temporary "coolness" was definitely offset by my main goal of the day: to purchase musician earplugs so that I could save my ears from the beating they took last night (did I mention that I was between two speakers?). So, inspired and guided by Nicky, I headed to Tom Lee Music during my lunch break to buy a pair of Hearoes--such a punny name, which, if you know me, is my favourite kind.
After work I headed to a 90-minute hot yoga class, dropped my stuff off in my car, and went to have a very healthy dinner at Opa in Pacific Centre. Then it was off to the Vogue Theatre to meet up with Nicky, RaeRae, Jamiekins, and W for Young the Giant.
I didn't have a ticket yet and quickly learned upon my purchase that prices go up around $5.00 on the day of. After entering the building, we were surprised by how many people there were already at 8:30pm--but then again, it was an all ages show--which means you will get eager and tall teens already hogging the spots we wanted at the front. We eventually squirmed our way to first/second/third row, depending on which of my friends you speak to. After the opening act, RaeRae and Nicky generously offered me a front row spot that opened up. This is probably the only benefit of having a short stature.
The opening band, Louder than Love, said they were from Vancouver. My guy friends enjoyed them while the girls and I thought they were a bit country-rock (and I thought they sounded more like they were from Surrey because of it).
Pretty soon, Young the Giant, a band from California, came onstage and brought their fun and carefree music to our ears. I had only heard their song "My Body" and from my first or second listen (I was in Italy at the time), I knew I had to see these guys in concert, if not to be in the crowd for that song alone. They played it last and I left satisfied -- but oh, how we would have loved an encore!
You can see a couple of Nicky's photos from the concert here.
And for interest's sake, one of the teenaged girls started crying when she saw the band come out. WTML?
Haha I just noticed that I merit my own tag in your blog now!
