Ludovico Einaudi's music is, quite simply, the soundtrack to life. He is an Italian composer and pianist who has the talent of making the piano somehow seem like an extension of his soul.
I had the honour of witnessing him in concert tonight at the Chan Centre. Knowing about him at all was thanks to a few tiny twists of fate. His music was used on one of the So You Think You Can Dance numbers awhile ago and I shared it here last year. Then a month ago, while scrolling through one of the weekly concert email listings I get, I saw his name and immediately ordered tickets to his show without hesitation. Keep in mind that my instincts were based on having heard the one song and that I am a very indecisive person.
He seemed shy and soft-spoken on the one occasion he talked to the audience, but while playing his compositions, most of which were about ten minutes in length, he was transformed into an almost other-wordly presence. His music has a way of instantly connecting to your heart.
Here's one of my favourite songs of the night.
