I have been in love with Craigy for awhile. Oli introduced me to his late night show a few years ago and told me she thought I'd like him. She was so right. He's an attractive older Scottish man with a great charm and wit about him...as well as honesty, which is rare in Hollywood.
Between the beginning of my infatuation with him and now, Craigy has been to Vancouver three times to perform his stand-up material. His show was sold out the first two times before I could even think about getting a ticket, but this time, I was armed with my overeagerness and weekly concert and show email updates. While visiting Oli in Toronto this past June, I found out Craigy would be coming to Vancouver again, and I emailed Boy and asked him to get us tickets since they would go on sale while we would be driving to Quebec and thus internet-less. Yes, he is also a fan.
Tonight, we excitedly drove to Coquitlam's Red Robinson Show Theatre to see him, and he was as great live as we could have imagined him to be.
After the show, Boy and I waited around in the hopes of meeting him (we had gotten to meet Penn and Teller when they came in March). At some point, we noticed a group of people being led down a stairwell and so Boy suggested we follow them. We entered a large room with chairs lined up against the walls, and just as we crossed the centre of the room, a man asked what our names were and who we came with (as in which contest we had won), which was just a formality because he already knew we weren't supposed to be there. He told us "nice try" and then we were back up where we started, and soon after that we were shooed away with the other non-contest winners as the theatre was closing.
Sigh.
I should have lowered my expectations, but in my mind I was going to take a photo with him and then be whisked away and get married. I had warned Boy before the show that we wouldn't see each other again. So not getting a photo with Craigy was a bit tough, and getting caught (which always happens when I break a rule) took me down from my initial high of seeing the show.
But my admiration of Craigy continues, and I hope to see him perform again.
