aka "the Sardinian life"
June 29, 2011
Hello, friends! I'm back from my one week trip to Sardegna and I've finally gotten around to blogging about it. Each night I made sure to write in my journal so that I would remember what to share with you (and my future self) about the trip. The curveball is that for 6 of the 7 entries, I wrote in Italian in an effort to keep in touch with the language that I am trying so hard to quasi-master. Don't worry though, I'll be writing in English here.
Before starting off, I have to thank Nicky for sharing this page out of the Hither and Thither blog with me. That and the advice from my relatives really inspired me to go, so when Oli asked me early this spring where we could travel together, Sardegna came foremost to mind. It was her first time in Italy and I think she was happy to go somewhere off the beaten path with me, given that Florence and Rome are so much more accessible.
I also must say that I didn't do a ton of research before going other than reading a few things online and asking my relatives for their recommendations. As a result, we ended up admiring the geography more than the history or culture. Oh, and we ate a lot of pasta too (in fact, we had pasta in every meal except two. That's some dedication right there!).
And my writing this also means that I survived driving a standard transmission car! That calls for some celebration. And perhaps some kind of trophy or personalized speed-racing helmet à la Stig.

I met the most amazing people in Sicily and the one who made the most impact on me, his mom told him to try something new as Rome and such is just another busy city.
ReplyDeleteI can relate so well to your posts but I find it so hard to blog quite in the manner as you do!
