Settling into Villetta

It's been three weeks since I moved to Villetta, and time has really flown by (how is it already the last week of September?!). My suspicions were confirmed--my diet has primarily consisted of pasta--but there have been many nice surprises so far, including:

  • taking 15 minutes or less to get home from work
  • the vicinity of Boy
  • a new yoga studio opening a block away from me yesterday
  • the power of paint to make a place feel like home
  • gifts from friends, Ma, and Boy
  • my couch Ottanio's colour going well with the living room paint (quelle surprise!)
  • the freedom to do and eat anything I want when I want!
It's also nice to know I live a block away from one of Vancouver's favourite French bakeries/cafés.

The pitfalls of Villetta are few:
  • all doors are difficult to open or close (or lock!)
  • the dumpster is scary with its heavy bar and door :(
  • fruit flies due to the presence of fruits
  • being on the loud seagull morning flight path
I have thrown 2 dinner parties so far, am hosting Ma tonight, and have discovered and watched many hours of Mad Men on Netflix.

It's a life I didn't foresee living so quickly.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that everything has changed. I feel incredibly lucky to have found such a great place with very reasonable rent. Other times I realize that I have yet to start really enjoying my neighbourhood since I have been busy settling in. But with Granville Island, West 4th, South Granville, and Broadway a short walk away, I feel like Vancouver is mine for the exploring. And that there is no rush at all.
