Mary J. Blige was a guest performer tonight but all I could think of at the end of the show was that she should have sung "No More Drama" instead of the borderline country song she sang (it was nice but I don't think it was meant to be written for her). This is my way of saying that there was SO MUCH DRAMA tonight.
Good news first: Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene (phew!), and Melanie Amaro were safe. That left Marcus Canty and Rachel Crow in the bottom two. It was Marcus' third time in the bottom so I figured that the judges would take the hint and send him home (even though I prefer Marcus over Rachel). They both had great "save me" performances and then the judges made their decisions. It kinda went down like this (but not really):
- L.A. Reid: Y'all are great but I'mma gonna stick wit mah homeboy.
- Simon: Goodbye, Marcus!
- Paula: You were both fantastic and these were the best "save me" performances ever.
- Nicole: *Cries and reeks indecision* I can't decide so I will let America decide.
- DEADLOCK
- Rachel Crow has the lowest amount of votes. She breaks down on the floor and wails. Her mom rushes to the stage to comfort her.
- Nicole is booed by all.
It's times like these that I wish I could draw, because I think my points above would have made for an amusing comic.
So I am relieved that Marcus is safe since I think he is a more marketable artist than Rachel, but at the same time I am a bit annoyed at Nicole for basically living up to the stereotype of women being weak. I wish she would just suck it up and make a decision without acting like she was the one going home. As much as the contestants can appreciate her thoughtfulness, at the end of the day she is a judge and mentor who needs to at least appear powerful. Simon must be so angry with her right now. Rachel too.
I also forgot to mention yesterday that Chris Rene suddenly got attractive. Is it just me? I think it's a combination of being healthier, good styling choices, and a growing confidence.
And just when I finished typing, Chiara decides to jump off my lap. My neck is feeling relieved.
The semi-finals are next week! Who will ultimately take home the prize? Right now all I know is that it won't be Marcus since he hasn't been getting enough votes for awhile now. And I don't really see Melanie winning. Which means that Chris Rene has a big chance of surprising the me-of-last-week!
So here I was thinking Marcus was going to be easily sent home after Rachel's performance that I had my own jaw-dropper moment when Nicole cried like a baby and looked completely ridiculous. Then the second shocker was when Rachel collapsed on the floor and started wailing because she was handling it so well until the end! I think that was the most surprising moment. She was acting so mature and then right at the very end it looked like something possessed her and she went all nutso. "Mommy you promised me!!!" wow...there's the 14 year old! Kids are going to be kids. I don't think she can handle superstardom just yet...
ReplyDeletePleuvies, I totally agree. But just like our contrary opinions about Astro's flip-out, I think if you watch Rachel talking to her mom again you'll see that she later asked "Do you promise that everything's going to be okay?". You're right though, she is a bit too young to handle that level of fame, and that's what makes me believe that Marcus should have gone through instead of her.
